Harvey Weinstein Rushed to Hospital for Emergency Heart Surgery
The disgraced Hollywood producer was rushed to a hospital in New York City due to "several medical conditions," his representatives said
Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been hospitalized to undergo an emergency heart surgery, his representative and lawyer confirm to PEOPLE.
The convicted rapist's representatives Craig Rothfeld and Juda Engelmayer said in a statement that he was “rushed to Bellevue Hospital” due to “several medical conditions."
The office of Weinstein's attorney, Arthur Aidala, tells PEOPLE that Weinstein was hospitalized on Sunday, Sept. 8, and had a heart operation on Monday. The situation began to unfold on Sunday night after he began complaining he was feeling unwell, while having a cough and weight gain, Rothfeld told NBC News.
Monday’s heart surgery was conducted to "alleviate the massive amount of fluid on his lung and heart,” Rothfeld told NBC. Weinstein is in the ICU following his surgery, NBC reports.

"We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today however cannot comment any further than that," Rothfeld and Engelmayer said in their statement.
"As we have extensively stated before, Mr. Weinstein suffers a plethora of significant health issues that need ongoing treatment. We are grateful to the executive team at the New York City Department of Correction and Rikers Island for acting swiftly in taking him to Bellevue Hospital," the statement said.
More than 80 women have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse against Weinstein. Weinstein has denied the allegations.
In April of 2024, his 2020 rape and sexual assault convictions in New York State were overturned, though he currently remains incarcerated for his 2022 conviction of rape in California, where he was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2023.
Prosecutors in New York plan to retry Weinstein; his retrial is set for Nov. 12, and he has a pretrial hearing scheduled for Sept. 12.
