Harry Potter first edition on sale at NYC book fair

STORY: These rare books, photos, maps, and

manuscripts from around the world are on sale

at this antiquarian book fair in New York

The priciest item is a map printed

on parchment made from animal skin

(Alex Clausen, President, Barry Lawrence Ruderman Antique Maps)

“So, this map was made about 1360, shortly after the Black Death, the plague going through Europe. It was probably made in Venice, we think. And the price, the asking price, is $7.5 million.”

The fair also boasts a first edition of

'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'

(Sunday Steinkirchner, Owner, B&B Rare Books)

"So in 1997, this book sold for about $18 U.S. And I really wish that I had bought it then and kept it until now. But my customer purchased this copy in 2017 for $60,000. So that's a huge price increase from just a few years ago until now. So, $60,000 and now it's $225,000."

The book fair runs until April 30
