2020 has been an eventful year for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle but as the new year approaches, they've taken time to reflect, and just dropped the first episode of their Archewell Audio podcast.
The couple reportedly signed a deal with Spotify worth up to a whopping £30 million, to produce podcasts, and this holiday special is the one kicking it all off.
In the 33-minute episode, the pair discuss what they've learned from 2020, and their hopes for the new year ahead.
"As we come to the end of this year, and look to the future… let's hold onto the lessons we've learned about how important it is to take care of one another and how meaningful our connections are, even when they're physically impossible," Harry says. Meghan adds, "We thought, what if we can bring together some people that inspire us—people that we admire—and get their thoughts on what they learned from 2020?"
And they did exactly that. Episode one features appearances from celebrity friends including mental health advocate Matt Haig, as well as Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka and George the Poet - who used the opportunity to share gratitude to the frontline workers during the pandemic.
Wishing their listeners a happy new year, Meghan and Harry decided to share a poignant song of hope, which just so happened to be their wedding song.
"Not a toast per se, but a song, which is about shining a light. A song that means so much to us," Harry says, before playing the gospel tune, "This Little Light of Mine."
"It played at the very end of our wedding, while we were walking down the steps of the church," Meghan explains. "It was the music that we wanted playing when we started our lives together. Because as we all know, 'Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.'"
The show is rounded off by Meghan, who says, "No matter what life throws at you guys, trust us when we say, love wins."
Earlier this year the Duke and Duchess officially stepped away from their roles in the Royal family, and have since relocated to California, where they're raising their son, Archie, whom the podcast was named after.
They have also reportedly signed a deal with Netflix, so this definitely isn't going to be the last time that we hear from them.
The first episode of Archewell Audio is available to stream on Spotify now.
