Harry and Meghan news – latest: Duke of Sussex asked to give month’s notice before making trip to UK

Prince Harry was asked by the Home Office to give a 28 days notice before making a trip to the UK, reports suggest.

The Duke of Sussex was informed that it would then be a matter for the Home Office to consider whether the requested security arrangements were necessary, following his decision to step back from royal duties.

The details of the dispute were disclosed in legal documents relating to Prince Harry’s libel claim against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) over an article about his challenge against the Home Office over security arrangements, which returned the High Court on Friday (17 March).

The libel claim was temporarily paused in December last year to see if a settlement could be reached between the duke and the publisher.

Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ three children are all expected to be given key roles at the coronation of King Charles and Camilla Queen Consort on 6 May, while the Sussex’s children, Archie and Lilbet, are reportedly “not yet” invited to the event.

Prince George, Charlotte and Louis are expected to join their parents in a carriage behind Charles and Camilla who will travel in the Golden State Coach as they return to the palace. The Times reports that an invite has not yet been extended to Harry and Meghan’s children.

Prince Harry asked to give a month’s notice before making trip to the UK, reports claim

Prince Harry was told to give 28 days notice of his planned trips to the UK, it has emerged.

The Duke of Sussex was told that the time would allow for security requests to be processed and that it would be a matter for the Home Office to consider whether the requested security arrangements were necessary.

According to The Telegraph, Harry pushed back on the decision, asking the Home Office committee responsible for royal security to give him an example of a person with the same threat assessment as him who had received no security after stepping back from public duty.

Details of Harry’s security arrangements have been disclosed in papers as part of his attempt to rule that the publishers of the Mail on Sunday libelled him with an article about his request for police protection when he and his family visit the UK.

Camilla could be crowned Queen and not Queen Consort at the coronation

Thursday 16 March 2023 15:35 , Ellie Muir

There has been speculation that Camilla will become known as just the Queen following the coronation, instead of Queen Consort.

This appears to be confirmed as a coronation edition of the Bible is set to be released and just states Camilla as “Queen”.

The name Queen Consort is given to the spouse of a king rather than the Queen Regnant who is the female monarch.

It had been previously thought she would be known as the Princess Consort upon her husband’s accession.

According to The Mirror, the coronation edition of the Bible reads: “To commemorate the Coronation of their majesties King Charles lll and Queen Camilla. In the Abbey Church of St Peter, Westminster. The sixth day of May 2023.”

Following Charles’ accession to the throne, there have been many changes to royal titles, including William becoming the Prince of Wales and Prince Edward taking the late Philips title of the Duke of Edinburgh.

It comes as the Sussex’s children, Lilbet and Archie, are now officially referred to as Princess and Prince, as their grandparent, Charles, is now a monarch.

How does inheritance work in the royal family?

Tuesday 14 March 2023 10:20 , Ellie Muir

Inheritance can be a tricky subject, particularly because it involves all the emotions that come with a death in the family, dealing with inheritance tax and splitting what is left among multiple family members if the dearly departed’s will is unclear.

But as complicated as they are for regular people, inheritance among the British royal family can be mysterious due to monarchs’ wills being sealed for decades after their death.

In his Netflix documentary Harry and Meghan, the duke said: “It was probably one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I felt so ashamed afterwards. All I wanted to do was make it right.”

The Sun quoted a source as saying that it was “kind of ironic that Netflix is the one to bring up this incident” after Harry spoke about “a huge level of unconscious bias” within the royal family in his docuseries.
