Harry Kane transfer update: Man Utd not completely in clear for Tottenham striker as club with trophy guarantee emerge
Hours after Man Utd were revealed as being confident of signing Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, the England captain has been linked with a different destination.
Kane is about to enter the final year of his contract with Tottenham. Therefore, he is once again at a crossroads for his career. A lack of trophies might still be weighing on his mind, which has led to links with a move elsewhere.
On Tuesday morning, The Sun provided a huge update on Kane’s future. It was suggested that Man Utd are growing in confidence that they will be able to tempt Kane to Old Trafford in the summer.
According to the report, Kane would cost less than £100million if Tottenham were to fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Hence, Man Utd have supposedly started making contact with his camp through a third party – and have received some encouragement.
If Kane wants to catch Alan Shearer as the Premier League’s all-time record scorer, then moving to Man Utd might be his most feasible exit route in the event of him leaving Tottenham.
Yet he has also been linked with some big clubs overseas, such as Bayern Munich. And now, Le 10 Sport has followed up from The Sun‘s scoop, revealing that Paris Saint-Germain are contenders for Kane as well.
According to the French source, PSG are still not satisfied with their attack. Precisely, in order to keep Kylian Mbappe happy, they might have to recruit an elite centre-forward.
With that in mind, Kane has been identified as a target whom Mbappe would be willing to play alongside. He has become an alternative candidate to existing Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford, and potential Red Devils target, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
Harry Kane future becomes even more complex
Hence, Kane’s decision about his future may have another layer of consideration. PSG are a powerful club, where he would be virtually guaranteed to win trophies, at least of the domestic variety.
Therefore, they should be able to meet several of his criteria. Ultimately, though, he will have to decide if that matters more to him than the Premier League goalscoring record.
After becoming Tottenham’s all-time record scorer recently, Kane admitted that the idea of overtaking Shearer on the all-time Premier League list is on his mind. That won’t be achievable before the summer, though, so he would have to continue in England for a couple of seasons in order to do so.
By then, he will have passed the age of 30, and might not be as appealing to elite clubs. That said, he looks like he has been adapting his game to ensure longevity at the top, so only time will tell.
For now, Kane will be focusing on the remainder of the season with Tottenham. After it concludes, his future could be all to play for.
