From Seventeen

A brand new time period brought some big surprises for The Umbrella Academy cast and fans. However, no one could have guessed the big impact that some of the new characters would have made on our favorite superhero family. While Harlan played a small in this season, season two's crazy ending showed that there's a good chance that we haven't seen the last of him. So what kind of things we can expect from Harlan in season three of The Umbrella Academy?

*Major spoilers for season 2 of The Umbrella Academy below!*

Here's everything you need to know about Harlan from The Umbrella Academy season 2 and what's possibly next for him in season 3.

What happened to Harlan in The Umbrella Academy season 2?

Harlan is Sissy and Carl's only son. It is implied that he has autism, however, due to it being the 1960s, he is un-diagnosed. After being hit by Sissy's car when she arrives in Dallas, Vanya becomes a live-in nanny for Harlan and helps around the house. She also tries to remember who she was and what happened to her prior to waking up in Dallas.

One day, Harlan is missing from the house and seemingly drowns in a nearby lake. Vanya is able to bring him back to life using her powers. She also unknowingly passes some of her abilities to him and creates a special link with him through the transfer.

As Vanya is being electrocuted by the police who believe her to be a KGB agent, Harlan's powers also activate, scaring Sissy and Carl over whats happening. Carl attempts to take him to a mental hospital, but Sissy stops him by threatening him with her gun. After Ben successfully calms down Vanya, Harlan's powers also stop and he sees the commotion happening. After a fight between Sissy and Carl causes the gun to go off accidentally, Harlan is able to bounce the bullet back to Carl, who dies from the wound.

After the experience, Harlan starts to freak out over his powers and The Umbrella Academy arrive to help him with his powers. After taking down The Handler, who also wanted to kidnap him and use him like she did Lila, Vanya is able to calm him down and transfer her power back.

Vanya asks Sissy to go with her back to 2019, where Harlan will be able to live a normal life. Sissy refuses and decides to leave Dallas to go live with her family. However, as they are seen driving away, Harlan uses his new powers to levitate a toy, showing that Vanya didn't take away all of his power.

What does this mean for Harlan in season 3 of The Umbrella Academy?

When The Umbrella Academy returns to 2019 in the season two finale, the timeline seems to have changed with Ben still alive and the existence of the Sparrow Academy. This means that a signifiant change happened in the 1960s that affects the present.

While there's a number of things that could have caused the shift, it's impossible to ignore the fact that Harlan wouldn't have had powers if it wasn't for Vanya. Also, the fact that she wasn't able to remove all of it from him means that he was left with something that he didn't have before. With his new power, this also means that he has abilities that he doesn't know how to control.

This means that Harlan can either become a hero that either helps The Umbrella Academy in the future or has some affect on them later. Or he becomes a villain that The Umbrella Academy will have to face in 2019. Since we don't know the full extent of his powers, there's definitely a lot that they can explore when it comes to Harlan in season three.

Fans who are hoping that the comics might have some answers might be surprised to hear that Harlan isn't a character in the series. However, with the upcoming Sparrow Academy series coming out as the fourth volume in the comics, we might get some answers soon enough.
