Halsey Teases New Single ‘Lucky’ Which Samples Britney Spears Song From ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’: “24 Years Later, These Words Hit Different”

Halsey is teasing their new single, “Lucky,” which samples the Britney Spears song from her sophomore album, Oops! I Did It Again.

“When I was 5, it always felt like Britney was singing directly to me,” Halsey shared in an Instagram post. “24 years later, these words hit different. love you forever.”

In Halsey’s song, they sings, “But I’m so lucky, I’m a star, but I cry, cry, cry in the lonely heart thinking, if there’s nothing missing in my life, then why do these tears come at night.”

Spears’ “Lucky” was released on July 25, 2000, as the second single from her second studio album. The song’s writers are Max Martin, Rami Yacoub, and Alexander Kronlund. “Lucky” is about an eponymous famous actress who seemingly has it all but feels unhappy and lonely.

“She’s so lucky, she’s a star / but she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking / if there’s nothing missing in my life / then why do these tears come at night?” Spears sings in “Lucky.”

Halsey’s “Lucky” is part of their fifth album. In June, they released their first single, “The End.” The single received a lot of attention, as Halsey revealed in the song her private health battle.

“In 2022, I was first diagnosed with Lupus SLE and then a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life,” Halsey shared in an Instagram post on June 5. “After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors.”

Halsey continued, “After 2 years, I’m feeling better and I’m more grateful than ever to have music to turn to. I can’t wait to get back where I belong: With you all Singing and screaming my heart out.”
