Halsey shares details of rare health diagnosis

The “Graveyard” singer has been diagnosed with both systemic lupus erythematosus and a T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder.

Halsey is sharing more information about their newly-publicized health condition.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the “Graveyard” singer — who uses she/they pronouns — explained that they were diagnosed with both systemic lupus erythematosus and a rare T-Cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022. “Both of which are currently being managed or in remission; and both of which I will likely have for the duration of my life,” the singer wrote in their caption.

Systemic lupus erythematosus is the most common form of lupus, an autoimmune condition that can cause swelling, fatigue, and inflammation of internal organs and systems, according to the Lupus Foundation of America. T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders often occur in immunocompromised individuals and is frequently present as lymphoma or leukemia, according to Healthline.

Halsey had previously shared vague information about her health in a less-detailed post on Tuesday, promoting her new song “The End,” a song that references doctors, illness, poison, treatment, and death. “I told myself I’m giving myself two more years to be sick,” she says in a video in Tuesday’s post. “At 30, I’m having a rebirth, and I’m not going to be sick, and I’m going to look super hot and have lots of energy and I’m just going to get to redo my twenties in my thirties.”

The singer also said that they didn’t know how much to share about their diagnoses, but suggested that the positive reception to “The End” inspired them to provide additional context to fans. “I realize everyone is catching up with news I’ve held in for a very long time, and I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to share,” Halsey wrote on Wednesday. "You’ve all been so kind so I want to share a bit more.”

Halsey went on to thank the medical personnel who have helped her along the way. "After a rocky start, I slowly got everything under control with the help of amazing doctors. After 2 years, I’m feeling better and I’m more grateful than ever to have music to turn to,” she wrote. “I can’t wait to get back where I belong: With you all. Singing and screaming my heart out.”

The musician has previously detailed other diagnoses they’ve received, including bipolar disorder, endometriosis diagnosis. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), Sjogren’s syndrome, and MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome).

Halsey’s new single “The End” is now streaming. The singer will also appear opposite Mia Goth in Ti West’s horror threequel MaXXXine, which hits theaters July 5.
