PUTRAJAYA, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- National Moto2 rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah can heave a sigh of relief now that he has secured at least 60 per cent of the sponsorship needed for his World Motorcycle Championship challenge this season.

Hafizh, who will begin his campaign at the World MotoGP 2020 from March 6 to 8 at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar, today signed a sponsorship deal with UMW Grantt International Sdn Bhd.

UMW Grantt International, however, did not disclose the amount of sponsorship for Hafizh Syahrin.

"This sponsorship has somewhat lifted my spirits and I will give it my all for the sake of the country.

"I cannot promise to win every race but I will surely give other riders a run for their money,” he told reporters after signing the agreement with UMW Grantt International, which was represented by UMW autoparts senior general manager, Anas Nasrun Mohd Osman.

Hafizh Syahrin, who is still adapting to his new machine, had to return to Moto2 with the Angel Nieto team in 2020 after two seasons in the premier class MotoGP.

Angel Nieto was reported to have agreed to help Hafizh Syahrin secure a place in Moto2 but he has to source for main sponsors to meet his other needs, including salary, flight tickets, and hotel and transport costs for training.

"I have to adjust to the new machine because it is different. It would be easier if I was moving from a lower category (Moto3) to Moto2. However, I am not too concerned about this because I am confident of giving my best.

"I believe the support from Grantt, Sepang International Circuit and the Youth and Sports Ministry would help me to do better in the test race and race proper in Qatar," he said.

Meanwhile, UMW manufacturing and engineering president Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa hoped that the collaboration with Hafizh Syahrin would help promote the Grantt oil on the international stage.

"Grantt is a new product which was introduced in 2015. We decided to help Hafizh Syahrin because he is a national motor racing icon and an inspiration to youths,” he added.
