Guy Fieri Teased Son Hunter After He Bought a ‘Monster Diamond’ Engagement Ring for His Fiancée
The Food Network star opened up about his 27-year-old son’s recent engagement to fiancée Tara Bernstein
Guy Fieri is happy to have son Hunter follow in his lofty footsteps — except when it comes to one thing.
When chatting with PEOPLE about the return of his Flavortown Tailgate to Super Bowl 2024 in Las Vegas, the Food Network star opened up about his 27-year-old son’s recent engagement to fiancée Tara Bernstein.
“Hunter went and bought this monster diamond. I said, ‘Listen, let's just have a little talk, because if that ring is anywhere close to as big as your mom's, we're going to have a big problem,’" Guy jokes.
In all seriousness, the Guy’s Grocery Games star tells PEOPLE that he’s “so proud of [Hunter] on so many levels.”
Hunter proposed to his pickle ball pro fiancée on Thanksgiving Day this year, announcing the news in a joint-Instagram post less than one year after they first met at Guy's Super Bowl tailgate in February 2023.
“It was beautiful, and it was poetic. And it was well said, and it was great energy,” says Guy of the proposal. “And listen, I don't have any judgment on ‘when you know, you know.’”
Since he started dating Bernstein, Hunter has been absolutely smitten, Guy says.
“I've never seen him this way in his whole 27 years. He has been completely off his rocker. He has been completely lost. We are happy that this is finally going to get over with, and we can just move along, because we've lost him,” he says with a laugh. “And she's fortunately moving out here to Northern California, and it's going to be great.”

He adds: “They are perfect for each other. They’re the same person.”
Even though Bernstein isn’t the chef’s official daughter-in-law yet, Guy says he has a fun nickname for her.
“One day, Hunter and I, I don't know where we were. We were dropping her off. We were in the car. We were pulling away, and she was getting out of the car, and she was going to shut the door. And we said, ‘All right, Tara. See you in a little bit.’ She goes, ‘Toodeloo!’” he recalls.
“I stopped. I backed up. I rolled the window down. I go, ‘What did you just say?’ She goes, ‘What'd I say?’ I said, ‘You say toodeloo?’ She goes, ‘Yeah, toodeloo. Toodeloo!’ Who's 26 years old and says, 'toodeloo?’" he says with a laugh.
Naturally, the greeting landed her the perfect nickname with Guy – plus, some personalized holiday presents. “She doesn't know it, but this Christmas, there are some ‘toodeloo’ items coming her way,” he says.
Earlier this month, Hunter and his fiancée also spoke with PEOPLE about their love story and their engagement.
"We both knew that we were going to marry each other. We just knew and we were just waiting for the timing of when I could do it," Hunter said, referencing their equally busy work schedules. "The only time I could [propose] was Thanksgiving."
So he did just that, surrounded by both sides of the family and gathered near the beautiful pond bank in the Fieris' backyard. "I'm trying to hold back everything I have," Hunter recalled as he spoke to her on one knee in front of around 40 friends and family who watched from afar.
"I'm nervous and I'm so happy with emotions," he remembered of the proposal. "Yeah, it was definitely an emotional moment." Bernstein added: "I was in tears after... It was just really, really beautiful."
