Gunman arrested in Australia after firing shots near shops

Police said the 40-year-old man was firing "random shots at vehicles" and in possession of two firearms and ammunition, when he walked into a dive shop holding one employee before releasing that person and surrendering to police in the Wollongong suburb of Windang.

"The individual is a registered firearms holder, so his information is certainly known to police on our system. I would not say he is well known to police," assistant police commissioner, Joseph Cassar told reporters.

Police said investigations are continuing.
