Guitarist Plucks for the Penguins at Auckland Aquarium

Penguins enjoyed an intimate concert at Sea Life Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium in Auckland, New Zealand, recently.

Footage released by the aquarium on December 18 shows gentoo and king penguins enjoying the enrichment session.

The birds were treated to a modern version of Silent Night by Mitchell Thorburn, an employee at the Auckland aquarium.

Kristen Buckley, penguin carer at the aquarium, said they often use bubbles and balls as forms of enrichment and are always looking for ways to provide the penguins with new experiences.

“The penguins were absolutely enthralled by Mitchell and it was wonderful to see! There was always the chance they would ignore the music altogether, but they had the opposite reaction,” Buckley said. Credit: SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium via Storyful
