Haute Couture AW22 has taken social media by storm. Here’s a round-up of our favourite moments from Dior, Valentino, Balenciaga and Fendi.

Dior

Monotone colour palettes were on display for Dior’s SS22 Haute Couture. As a tribute to the value of craft and art, the collection was to honour human relationships. To elevate the experience, the show space was located in Musée Rodin, surrounded by beautiful tapestries created by Chanakaya, the school of crafts in India. We can’t wait to see what AW22 will bring this season.

Our take: Romantic and ethereal; Dior’s Haute Couture A/W 2022 harmoniously blends a connection between cultures, mythologies and all forms of creation. Taking inspiration from Ukrainian folklore, the Tree of Life resonated with Maria Grazia Chiuri as it is believed to ensure longevity and prosperity. It also symbolises a connection between the past, present and future. This season, Dior embraces sartorial silhouettes, intricate embroidery and roses. With Dior’s love for beautiful blooms, it’s easy to spot the intricate floral motifs on various silhouettes, from mid-length dresses to jackets and capes. As neutrals take over, it’s clear that lace patchwork and encrusted 3-D beaded embroidery are having a moment this season.

Balenciaga

Balenciaga broke the internet when the fashion house announced its return to the Haute Couture calendar. Demna’s appointment as the brand’s creative director also marks his debut tapping into haute couture. As texture, proportions and fabric play took over, we can’t wait to see what Demna have in mind this season. In addition, Balenciaga is set to open its couture store on 10 Avenue George V in Paris, France, on the same day as its 51st Couture show.

Our take: We’re still buzzing over Balenciaga’s haute couture show. You may have seen star-studded names such as Naomi Campbell, Kim Kardashian, Nicole Kidman, Dua Lipa and more. Dreamy silhouettes marched down the runway as sequin dresses, 3D-printed padding, wetsuit-inspired zip closures, and more took control. Honouring the glamour of haute couture, beautiful gowns in vivid tones were displayed as an ode to Balenciaga’s iconic silhouettes. This season’s haute couture was a collaboration with artisans and industrial design. Highlights include the dystopian-like face shield in coated polyurethane engineered by Mercedes-AMG F1 Applied Science. Apart from that, the It bag of the season is the highly-anticipated Speaker Bag.

Fendi

Inspired by sci-fi books, Kim Jones adapted his love for the futuristic theme into his first haute couture show for Spring 2021. Edgy and celestial, the collection debuted a series of velvet dresses, sheared mink capes, monastic dresses and beyond. Stay tuned for Fendi’s couture autumn/winter 2022 show on 7 July to witness what the designer has in mind this season.

Our take: Whimsical and elegant, Kim Jones takes Fendi Couture to a minimalist dream. Wearable pieces of tailored suits, flared silhouettes and high neckline dresses ruled this season. The intricate details, such as 18th-century kimono fabrics and glittering crystal embroiders, set this collection apart from others. In addition, you can spot Japanese silk sliced and asymmetrical reformed on floor-length dresses. East and West influences are put on view as we witness Japonisme, art deco influences, and Italian tailoring in this season’s silhouettes. In the accessories department, we’re in love with Fendi’s new high jewellery creations. Inspired by the brand’s Roman heritage, the “Flavus” collection is designed by the Artistic Director of Jewellery, Delfina Delettrez Fendi. From shoulder-graze earrings to cocktail rings, we’re in for a treat.

Valentino

For Spring 2022 haute couture, Valentino debuted a collection like no other. Last season, Pierpaolo Piccioli featured models of different bodies, sizes and ages, where romantic yet edgy drapery, sequins and sheer takeover. This year, Valentino is set to present its autumn/winter 2022 in Piazza Mignanelli and Trinità dei Monti, Rome, as a tribute to its roots, the world of Valentino. 

Valentino Haute Couture will be presented on 9 July at 2 AM (Malaysia time) on this website.

Our take: Titled “Valentino: The Beginning”, this season’s collection was a sight to behold. As primary block hues and neutrals conquered the city of Rome, Maison Valentino took its heart and soul to the Spanish Steps, Piazza Mignanelli and Trinita dei Monti. As a tribute to the Maison’s roots, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli elevates classic silhouettes and focuses on the power of movement. Highlights include capes, feather headdresses, floor-grazing skirts, sheer ruffle tops, and sweeping trails. Punchy—rich purple, fuchsia, and neon — tones with dramatic feather headpieces shared the spotlight. The icing on the cake was not just the beautiful kaleidoscope pieces but the diverse casting featuring models of various sizes, ages, and ethnicities.
