GSC Cinemas takes seriously Ameera Khan's "House of Gucci" blunder
11 Jan – GSC Cinemas recently stated that it is taking seriously the act of illegally recording movie content, following the controversy surrounding Ameera Khan's "House of Gucci" blunder.
The cinema chain recently responded to a netizen, who tagged them on Twitter with screenshots of Ameera's Instagram Stories where she shared several scenes from the Lady Gaga-starrer while she attended a special screening of the movie, yet to be released in Malaysia.
"Recordings of movie content are strictly prohibited," said GSC. "We are taking this seriously and have reached out and reported this incident to the rights owner for further action. Thank you for highlighting this."
GSC later added that they have reported the matter to the movie distributor, United International Pictures (UIP).
On the other hand, FINAS' CEO Prof Md Nasir stated that cinema owners and film exhibitors have the right to take stern action against anybody for doing such a thing.
"According to Article 43A, if convicted, the individual can be fined not less than RM10,000 and not more than RM100,000 or imprisoned for a term not exceeding five years or both," he said.
It is noted that Ameera's sister Neelofa had done a similar thing with the Disney live-action remake of "Lion King" back in 2019. She immediately apologised following the backlash.
