Greta Thunberg Arrives in Lisbon After Crossing Atlantic Ocean on Way to Climate Summit

Teenage environmental activist Greta Thunberg arrived in the Port of Lisbon on December 3 after a three-week journey across the Atlantic Ocean.

Thunberg was on her way to Madrid for the COP25 climate summit, which runs until December 13.

Thunberg crossed the ocean aboard a catamaran belonging to Australian YouTubers Riley Whitelum and Elayna Carausu. They were also accompanied by Nikki Henderson, a professional yachtswoman from England.

This video shows the vessel arriving in the Port of Lisbon.

Thunberg, age 16, originally planned to travel to Chile until the summit was relocated to Madrid due to ongoing protests in the South American country.

The catamaran was met with a large reception of climate activists, locals, and journalists at the Port in Lisbon.

Thunberg told journalists that she plans to rest in Lisbon for a few days before traveling the 400 miles to Madrid for a December 6 climate march. Credit: @Rogatobags via Storyful
