Greg Rutherford left 'shaken' after narrowly avoiding injury following freak incident at home
Greg Rutherford has revealed that he and his family narrowly avoided injury following a freak incident at their home.
The former Olympian, 37, took to Instagram to unload his trauma after a skylight exploded, sending shards of glass crashing down onto the sofa and surrounding area where his children had been just minutes before.
Uploading a video showing the aftermath, Rutherford - who shares kids Milo, eight, Rex, five, and Daphne, two, with his fiancée Susie Verrill - explained: “One of the most terrifying experiences - one of our skylights up here just exploded.
“Just, literally, me standing in the kitchen watching the TV on the wall, and it just went - bang! And glass went everywhere.”
Recalling what a close call eldest child Milo in particular had, he said: “I kid you not, two minutes before, Milo was down here doing some school work, and I said, ‘It's a nice day, go out on the deck, mate’.
“Thank God I did that because if not, I can't even imagine what could have happened.”
The former Dancing On Ice contestant then panned the camera up towards the decimated skylight, as he continued to ponder what had caused events to take place.
“I have no idea if it's the sun that's heated it up, and it's happened, or if something like this happens. I cannot explain to you how terrifying...” he mused.
“I've been walking in and out because I've been trying to tidy up today, I've walked past this 50 times in the last half an hour.
“I don't know. What a harrowing thing to happen,” he concluded.
