Greenpeace put "oxygen" mask on statue in Madrid

As part of World environment day, activists on Saturday (June 5) placed a transparent showcase with a tree connected to the mask to symbolize the need for green areas in cities.

The Cibeles sculpture is the Greek god of mother earth.

Greenpeace said cities are responsible for 70 percent of global pollution and called for city mayors take action to boost green areas to battle global warming.

According to Greenpeace, Madrid only has 21 square meters of green space per individual, less than half the 50 square meters recommended by the environmental group.
