Anything to be more productive while working from home.
There was once a time (as in, a couple years ago) when putting in a request for a standing desk at work would make you the target of instant ribbing. So what, you think you’re better than us plebs who sit? Maybe there are some people, likely those inhabiting a fantasy world of unaching backs, for whom a regular desk and a regular desk chair are good enough for a day of desk work. Maybe those people don’t get hopelessly sluggish around 2:30 p.m., when lunch hits the stomach and the morning’s coffee leaves the brain. Maybe those people don't experience neck pain. But setting them aside, the standing desk is becoming more and more of an accepted desk option.
A standing desk could also be a good match for your work-from-home situation. You could say that home offices are getting the HGTV treatment in 2020, except "the HGTV treatment" is you realizing that crouching over your laptop screen while hunkered in the far corner of the sofa is not what the experts would call “ergonomic,” so you decide to put a bit of effort into an upgrade. Office chairs are being ordered and new stands are being placed under laptops and tablets. When the only option for accomplishing some upright work is clearing a spot on the wardrobe for a laptop, where elbows are at the most-awkward angle possible, standing desks are being purchased. Get one yourself and be WFH over-achiever of the century.
As we've said before, we're in for the long haul of working at home. Here are eight standing desk contenders, from simple desk lifts to electric machines, to make it a more productive period. The only people who can make fun of you there (your kids, your roommate, your partner) make fun of you already.
