A drone flying over the southern California coast caught two gray whales embracing in what appeared to be a hug.
The footage was captured near the south end of Catalina Island, Dana Wharf Whale Watching’s chief operating officer, Donna Kalez, told Storyful.
“We saw blows ahead. At the same time, there were about 30 Risso’s dolphin in the area. The blows were three northbound gray whales who continued along the backside of the island,” Kalez said.
“They were rolling, spy hopping, possibly mating, so we are calling it HUGS,” she said. Credit: DanaWharf.com via Storyful
