Democratic New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy was projected to narrowly defeat Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli, returns showed on November 3, after the race had been too close to call the previous day.
The Associated Press called the race early Wednesday evening “when a new batch of votes from Republican leaning Monmouth County increased Murphy’s lead.”
Murphy was set to become the first Democratic governor in 44 years to win re-election in New Jersey.
