Government ‘very pleased’ to hit ‘key date’ of 17 May

Kwasi Kwarteng says the government is “very pleased to reopen in the way we said we would”, as lockdown restrictions are relaxed in England under Step Three of the roadmap from today. Although there are rising coronavirus cases linked to the Indian variant in North West England, the business secretary said he is “confident” that Step Four of the roadmap will go ahead as planned on 21 June.
