Gordon Lam supports postponement of 40th HKFA

30 Sep – Actor-producer Gordon Lam recently expressed support for the Hong Kong Film Awards postponing its 40th edition to 2022.

As reported on Singtao Daily, the actor who was asked about the recent announcement made by HKFA Chairman Derek Yee, stated that the decision to merge submissions for 2020 and 2021 movies is good since the first half of this year did not provide many opportunities for film releases.

"Although the social distance measures are slowly easing, we still only have three months left. It would not be enough to release all the movies that were originally scheduled to be shown this year," he said.

When asked if the merge would pose a big challenge to his new movie, "Hand-Rolled Cigarette", which has yet to be released, Gordon said that he doesn't care too much about being nominated.

"I took part in the movie to support new people in the film industry. Aside from the director, there are many new people working behind the scene. I just hope that everybody has a chance to work whether or not the movie they're working on could be nominated at the HKFA," he said.
