GOP Rep. Bacon Admits ‘No Evidence’ of Crimes Found in Biden Impeachment Probe

The impeachment probe against President Joe Biden is “probably nearing the conclusion,” said Republican Rep. Don Bacon. The congressman said that lawyers for the committees investigating Biden “say, at this point, there’s not a specific crime that has been committed.”

“The lawyers and the committee that I talk to say there’s not a specific crime,” Bacon said during a Sunday appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press. “And he’d need that for high crime or misdemeanor.”

“I think it merited an investigation to put the facts out, let the public look at it, make a determination,” he added. “And I think it’s good to be transparent, especially in an election year, so let’s put the facts on the table. But when I talked to the lawyers on the committee staff, they say, at this point, there is not a specific crime that’s been committed. And I think that’s important.”

When host Kristen Welker asked the congressman if now is the time to “drop” the investigation, he said, “I don’t know if it’s time, right now. But I do think we’re probably nearing the conclusion of this investigation.”

Democrats have criticized the GOP-led investigation into the Bidens’ finances, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calling one recent impeachment hearing “a deep sea fishing expedition because the Republican case has completely fallen apart.”

Hunter Biden in his testimony to the House Oversight Committee called the probe a “house of cards of lies” and a “destructive political charade.”

Earlier this month, Alexander Smirnov, a key witness in the investigation, was charged with lying to federal authorities and admitted that Russian intelligence was “involved in passing a story” about the president’s son.
