Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has admitted she feels "physically sick" at thought of Christmas without husband Derek Draper.

Derek has been hospitalised since March after contracting COVID-19 and Kate said she's struggling to imagine the festive period with just her and their children.

"I feel physically sick actually and can feel my chest tightening at the thought of it," Kate told her GMB co-host, Ben Shepherd, on the show.

"I'm in total panic about the idea of me, Darcey and Billy on our own this Christmas unable to visit Derek because of potential restrictions.

"That huge emotional hole, and I don't know how to fill it, without grandparents and without friends helping to fill it.

"It feels like such a significant moment as all festivals are," she added, admitting it's causing her to panic about what could happen.

"I do feel in a panic about it, but we're in this situation because of the spread of a disease that at the moment doesn't have a cure."

Kate recently revealed Derek had uttered his first word in months, as he mouthed "pain".

She later called it "a huge breakthrough" and that it was a good sign he was beginning to form words.

"Because even though it's obviously heartbreaking... because what it means is that he feels pain – which we don't want – but it is a breakthrough because what it means... is that he's been able to connect a sensation in his body with his brain and connect that to his mouth to shape the word 'pain'."

Kate went on: "I believe he is in there. That's a long way from who Derek is... but it's a start."
