Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has posted a hopeful Instagram update about her husband Derek Draper's condition as he continues to fight coronavirus (COVID-19) in hospital.

"I’m afraid he is still in a deeply critical condition, but he is still here , which means there is hope," she said.

She started by thanking NHS workers "from the bottom of my heart" for keeping Derek alive, particularly highlighting the importance of their "skills, dedication and downright guts in the face of so much personal risk".

Kate also thanked her amazing support system of friends and family, who she also thanks in her post by calling them "my own little band of key workers".

The post was accompanied by a video of her neighbours letting off fireworks last night (April 16) during the NHS #clapforourcarers at 8pm.

Her co-presenter Ben Shephard shared a statement from Kate on GMB last week (April 10), in which she thanked fans for their messages of love and support during "an excruciatingly worrying time".

In this previous message, it was revealed that Derek had tested positive for COVID-19 and was receiving treatment in intensive care last week.

Kate had previously said that she herself was displaying "mild symptoms" of the virus and was self-isolating at home with her children.

Her GMB statement showed more gratitude on her and Derek's behalf: "It's hard to find the right words because thank you alone just doesn't seem enough, but I do thank them will all my heart, as I know Derek would also if he could."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
