Good Morning Britain presenter Sean Fletcher has revealed his pet dog has died in an unfortunate road accident.

The 49-year-old newsreader told how two-year-old black spaniel Meg was found beside the road covered with a blanket after being hit by a car while she was believed to be out chasing a fox.

Fletcher confessed: "I am heartbroken. My lovely dog Meg got out of our house, we think chasing a fox. She was hit by a car and died. We are all totally devastated.

"She had been moved from the side of the road and placed by a tree with a small blanket covering her. Thanks to the person who did that. I don’t know who you are but you need to know that what you did made it easier for my wife and children when they found her.

The GMB presenter revealed her death had been even more upsetting for him as he was away filming ITV show Coast and Country at the time and has to watch his family bury her in the garden on a video call.

Fletcher said: "I spent so much time with Meg as I work from home a lot. It felt like we were a team. She was two-years-old so it seemed like we’d just got through the puppy stage and were really beginning to understand each other.

"Being away with work when she died was so so hard. I can’t tell you how hard it’s been. From afar I watched on Facetime as my family buried her in our garden."

He added: "Meg was a beautiful dog. She had a fantastic character. She was a massive part of our family. She has left a hole in our lives. We are all so upset. And I will never forget you Meg."

His GMB colleagues offered their condolences.

Susanna Reid commented: "I am so so sorry Sean – what a beautiful dog she was and what a painful loss."

Ben Shephard said: "Sean I’m so so sorry to here this – sending big love to you all."

And Charlotte Hawkins told him: "Oh no Sean so sad to hear that. Heartbreaking for you all. What a gorgeous dog she was. Sending loads of love to you all xx"
