Good Morning Britain viewers who tuned in expecting hours of Piers Morgan ranting about everything (yet at the same time, nothing) were pleasantly surprised to see none other than Bill Turnbull co-hosting the show.

As this morning's show (February 24) opened, he and co-host Susanna Reid couldn't contain their excitement to be working together again, having presented BBC Breakfast together from 2003 until 2014.

"Pinch me, I can't believe this is actually happening!" Bill said about the two working together for the first time in six years. Susanna responded by giving him a hug.

Bill was then introduced to Andi Peters, whom he had shockingly never met before, and then pointed out that he and Charlotte Hawkins actually work together on Classic FM. Small world!

Bill couldn't help but get a little dig in at Piers Morgan, who he was replacing for the day. The host said that he couldn't stand it when a presenter doesn't let their colleague get a word in, and he would make sure it didn't happen on his watch.

Viewers very much enjoyed having Bill back on screens, as his name trended on Twitter with some people asking for him to be a permanent host instead of Piers.

"Great to see Bill Turnbull in the house. Could we just swap him for Piers Morgan? Please?" wrote one fan, while a second said: "Bill Turnbull on the sofa with Suzanne...just as it should be. No awkwardness...it's as if he's never been away. Welcome back."

"Great to see Bill Turnbull back on our screens with his old colleague Susanna Reid. Bill has been battling prostate cancer and it’s lovely to see him again albeit just for a short time. Well done ITV," another said.

"The lovely Bill Turnbull as professional as ever, gently reigning it back in even when Susanna rudely interrupts him. A consummate professional, good to see him back... #gmb," another tweet read.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV. Bill Turnbull is currently co-hosting for a three-day stint, ending on Wednesday (February 26).
