SINGAPORE — General moviegoers and art house cinephiles will have a new place to explore when the Golden Village x The Projector at Cineleisure opens its doors to the public on Saturday (2 December).

In a media release on Friday, the cinema's existing six movie halls will be split between both entities in the collaboration, with three programmed and ticketed by Golden Village (GV), and the other three by The Projector. Located on Level Five and Six of Orchard Cineleisure, the cinema complex will have over 1,400 seats, and span 41,000 square feet in size.

The collaboration will screen an expanded repertoire of mainstream blockbuster titles, alongside arthouse, independent films and live arts and culture programming.

Moviegoers can also visit new lounges, with many of the sofas and chairs being used items donated by supporters and used in previous pop-up locations.

As a tribute to local cinema heritage, the three halls managed by The Projector are named after defunct local cinemas - Majestic, Yangtze and Roxy.

Two new event spaces

The space will play host to two new event spaces, Room 237 and Ruby Lounge. Located at Level Five, Room 237, is an enclosed flexible event space with six digital screens that can accommodate up to 50 people. It is named after the forbidden room in the 1980 horror classic, The Shining.

Meanwhile, the Ruby Lounge on Level Six, is a high-ceiling corner unit with a city view that overlooks the junction of Orchard Road and The Heeren. It can host up to 150 people for events.

Patrons can also dine at No Spoilers Dining, a 44-seater restaurant that serves contemporary Southeast Asian cuisine, helmed by Chef Girda "Dot” Bandi, who had worked at the kitchens of Timbre Music venues for 15 years.

"It is our hope that this collaboration will feed the growing demand for quality cinema programming and that the diverse and enhanced offerings will continue to grow audiences and foster a strong community for both brands," said Clara Cheo, Golden Village's chief executive officer.

“Our collaboration with Golden Village, a leader in mainstream cinema, allows us to bring together the best of mainstream and alternative film, as well as our cultural content and events under one roof," said Karen Tan, co-founder of The Projector.
