'It's Going Down': Falling Space Debris Seen Over Queensland

Debris from a Chinese rocket re-entered Earth’s atmosphere in a dazzling display that captivated stargazers on February 25.

Professor Jonti Horner, an astronomer and astrobiologist at the University of Southern Queensland, told Storyful the debris that sparked the light show was an “upper stage from a Long March 3B rocket”.

According to NASASpaceflight.com, the rocket was launched on November 4, 2019, and carried a Chinese GPS satellite into orbit.

This footage, filmed from Roma according to the source, shows the debris falling towards earth. One person can be heard commenting: “it’s going down.” Credit: Justin Templeman via Storyful
