Former Gogglebox star Amy Tapper has opened up about the "horrible" online abuse she received after joining the Channel 4 series, admitting that she often used to search her own name on Twitter.

Amy, who recently appeared in Celebs Go Dating and is taking part in Celebrity Coach Trip, appeared on today's (January 17) Lorraine to talk about her recent weight loss and her experience in the public eye.

Reflecting on her time on Gogglebox, Amy admitted that when she first began filming for the show at 13, she "cared a lot about what people thought". "I used to actually look up my name on Twitter," she added.

"What I found was that no-one actually tags you in [their comments], so unless you type in your name in, you're not gonna see it," Amy said of online trolls. "They used to say horrible things. I don't understand it."

Fortunately, Amy now has a more positive outlook on people's opinions of her. "As I got older, I realised they don't actually know me and they don't know what I do behind closed doors," she revealed.

"It annoyed me because they sit there and think, 'She sits there on her couch, watching telly and eating crisps'. When in reality, that's just not how I live my life."

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
