Glowing Lava Shoots Out of Cumbre Vieja Volcano

Large columns of lava shot out of Spain’s Cumbre Vieja volcano, after an inner cone collapsed on Tuesday, October 26.

This footage shows glowing lava shooting out of the mouth of the volcano on Tuesday night.

Lava flow from the volcano had covered more than 906 hectares (3.5 square miles) of the island and destroyed at least 2,162 buildings as of Monday, the EU’s Copernicus Emergency Management Service said. Credit: Idafe.com via Storyful
