Tom Brady gave a rare, personal look inside his 11-year marriage to Gisele Bündchen during an interview with Howard Stern on Tuesday, explaining that at one point two years ago, Bündchen was so unhappy that she wrote him a letter explaining their relationship issues. Bündchen had been frustrated with the quarterback's lack of work-life balance.

Bündchen has made headlines before for saying she wants her 42-year-old husband to retire from football. In January 2018, Brady said during a SiriusXM interview that “if it was up to my wife, she would have me retire today. She told me that last night three times. And I said, ‘Too bad, babe, I’m having too much fun right now.’ You know, I feel like I can still do it. If you love what you do and you’re capable of doing it, then I might be so bored if I wasn’t going out there knowing that I could still do it. So I’m going to work hard to be ready to go, and I still plan on playing for a long time.”

During Brady's big interview, he opened up about the toll his thriving football career and business endeavors had on Bündchen and their relationship.

"She didn't feel I was doing my part for the family," Brady told Stern, according to the Daily Mail. "She felt like I would play football all season, and she would take care of the house and all the sudden when the season would end, I would be like, 'Great, let me get into all my other business activities. Let me get into my football training.'"

"And she's sitting there going, 'Well, when are you going to do things for the house? When are you going to take the kids to school and do that?' And that was a big part of our marriage. I had to, like, check myself. Because she's like, 'I have goals and dreams too.'"

When tensions peaked, Bündchen left Brady the note, which led them to go to couple's therapy to work through their issues.

"She actually wrote me a letter," Brady recalled. "It was a very thought-out letter that she wrote to me, and I still have it. I keep it in a drawer, and I read it, and it’s a very heartfelt letter for her to say this where I’m at in our marriage. It’s a good reminder to me that things are gonna change and evolve over time. What worked for us 10 years ago won’t work for us forever because we’re growing in different ways."
