Girl, 8, Dies of Sepsis After Doctor Sends Her Home Twice: 'Unbearable Pain'
The parents of Mia Glynn, 8, recall their daughter’s “awful” final moments being dismissed by their general practitioner before she died of sepsis
An 8-year-old girl died of sepsis after being sent home from her general practitioner twice. Now, her parents are speaking out about the tragedy for the first time in hopes of raising awareness in her honor.
On December 5, 2022, Mia Glynn started complaining to her parents of a sore throat. The couple — from Staffordshire, England — took her to see a doctor three days later when her symptoms escalated and she developed a temperature, a severe headache and was vomiting.
A general practitioner told Mia’s parents, Soron and Katie Glynn, to give her fluids and Tylenol and sent them home.
Hours later, Mia's symptoms got worse and her parents returned to their GP. This time, they were told that the hospital was full and they should go home, prescribing their daughter antibiotics and telling them to continue giving her fluids.

Soron, 39, said he started to panic after Mia woke up early the next morning with blue lips. She also developed rashes on her arms and legs overnight so they quickly called an ambulance.
"I said to the ambulance lady is [Mia] going to be ok, but they said they were doing all that they can and I knew then," he recalled, BBC reports.
"Shortly after that they started doing CPR," Katie, 37, added.
After arriving at the hospital, Mia was given intravenous antibiotics and fluids. However, it was suspected that she went into septic shock and suffered cardiac arrest. Doctors spent 20 minutes trying to resuscitate her before she died.
Mia’s cause of death was ruled as sepsis caused by Strep A infection.

"We’ll never get over the pain of losing Mia, especially in the way we did. Our hearts hurt every second since Mia’s heart stopped,” Katie said. "But we will always make sure Mia will be remembered in the most special way.”
“Seeing Mia in her final moments was awful,” Soron added. "We feel so blessed that she was our daughter but are completely heartbroken that Mia was taken from us so soon."
The parents have now hired lawyers to investigate Mia’s care, claiming medical negligence.
Katie and Soron have also dedicated their time to raising awareness of sepsis. They done so by creating a charity, aiM, to help support families going through similar situations.
“The unbelievable and unbearable pain we feel is unexplainable and unimaginable," Katie said, per BBC. "Our beautiful healthy girl was the happiest, brightest, most loving and caring girl who smiled, danced, brought joy and love to everyone she met."
