'Gilets jaunes' protest in Paris against planned French 'health pass' rules

Protesters marched in Paris on Saturday 17 July, against plans to require a 'health pass' to access cultural and leisure venues. The pass would show proof of vaccination or a recent negative PCR test and would be required to enter venues like cinemas or museums. They will be required from 21 July. French President Emmanuel Macron previously promised not to introduce such a system but has performed a u-turn after a sharp increase in the number of people infected with the Delta variant of the coronavirus in France. As well as people concerned about civil liberties, the protest also included conspiracy theorists and 'anti-vax' activists.
