Giant tortoise repopulation in the Galapagos has been a 'resounding success'

In 2015 more than 700 tortoises were released on Santa Fe Island

The original species became extinct here roughly 150 years ago

Preliminary results showed that 99% of the tortoises have survived

and are in good health
