Giant Seal Checks Out Gas Station in Victoria Town

A large seal captivated onlookers when it came ashore for an adventure in the town of Point Lonsdale in Victoria, Australia, on January 20.

Footage by Mia Moran shows local residents gather for a glimpse of the massive animal, identified as a male southern elephant seal by the ABC, at a BP gas station on Point Lonsdale Road.

According to reports, the seal drew a large crowd and smashed two windows at the gas station.

Speaking to Storyful, Moran described the incident as “wild” and “definitely not something you see every day.”

“It even broke the window about 15 seconds after this recording stops. I still can’t believe how big it is. It will be the talk of the town for a while,” she added.

According to the ABC, wildlife workers guided the seal back to sea as police officers kept onlookers at a distance.

The outlet said the seal was believed by some residents to be Henry, a popular seal known in the area, but other residents disputed this, saying Henry has not been seen in 10 years. Credit: Mia Moran via Storyful
