SINGAPORE – Food and grocery retailer Giant is doubling its senior citizen discount to six per cent from Wednesday (7 June) until 14 June, excluding weekends, for all yuu Rewards Club members.

Singaporeans and permanent residents (PRs) aged 60 and above, who are members of the rewards programme, can enjoy the six per cent discount across all Giant stores with no minimum spend, parent company DFI Retail Group (DFI) said in a statement on Wednesday.

However, the offer is not applicable for online purchases. Several products are also exempted from this programme, including tobacco and cigarettes, newspaper and magazines, infant milk powder, phone cards, Dairy Farm gift vouchers, lottery and purchases from concessionaires.

DFI's marketing director for Food and Own Brand, Southeast Asia, Lee Yik Hun, said that the initiative is part of DFI's ongoing commitment to ensure the elderly and vulnerable costumers can purchase daily essentials and get best value in the times of inflation and economic uncertainty.

"We know that every dollar counts and are continuously looking for opportunities to support Singaporeans," Lee said.

Giant previously extended its senior citizen discount programme into 2023, continuing with a 3 per cent discount storewide for all seniors on all weekdays. It also extended its lower prices campaign, "Lower Prices That Last", covering over 600 items, to the end of the year.

"The supermarket said that it will continue to drive maximum value for customers through its Lower Prices That Last programme and yuu Rewards Club," it said. "By leveraging these schemes, Singaporeans can expect to save up to 20 per cent on key essential products across fresh, grocery, personal care and household items."
