German stadiums light up in rainbow colors

Stadiums in Berlin and Cologne displayed their stadiums in full color as night fell for the duration of the game.

Munich's mayor had wanted the Allianz stadium to be lit in rainbow colors for the match to protest a new law in Hungary banning school materials deemed to "promote" homosexuality and gender change and restricting the media from showing such content in programmes accessible to minors.

In Budapest, where fans watched the Munich game on large screens outdoors, several supporters said "football should be football, politics should be politics" and that the two should not be mixed.

Germany salvaged a late 2-2 draw against Hungary to book their spot in the last 16.
