Georgia Police Crash Into Car to Halt Wrong-Way Driver in High-Speed Chase

Police officers pursued a wrong-way driver in Peachtree City, Georgia, after the suspect fled a traffic stop, as seen in footage released on April 26.

Peachtree City Police Department said officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a Chevy Impala near the intersection of Highway 74 and Highway 54 in Peachtree City on the afternoon of April 16. The driver, named as Gerontay D Adams, fled from the stop location “and began driving in a reckless manner [with] no regard to anybody else’s safety on the roadway,” the department said.

Dashcam footage shows police pursuing the car, which crossed over and drove on the wrong side of the road. Police stopped the car by ramming into it. Explaining the conclusion of the pursuit, the public information officer for the department, Christopher Hyatt, said, “His driving behaviors became so dangerous that our officers had to make intentional contact with the vehicle in order to bring the pursuit to the safest conclusion possible.”

The suspect then fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance from the vehicle. He was charged with over 50 traffic violations and 12 felonies, including possession of various drugs with intention to distribute. Credit: Peachtree City Police Department via Storyful
