Beyoncé has shared words of encouragement with Black Lives Matter demonstrators protesting across the United States.

The “Hold Up” singer posted a picture to Instagram of protesters in Minneapolis, the Minnesota city where George Floyd died last week after a police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

“The world came together for George Floyd,” Beyoncé wrote.

“We know there is a long road ahead. Let’s remain aligned and focused in our call for real justice.”

Last week, Beyoncé shared an emotional video to her Instagram calling for “justice for George Floyd” after his death left her “broken and disgusted”.

“We all witnessed his murder in broad daylight,” she said.

“We’re broken and we’re disgusted. We cannot normalise this pain. I’m not only speaking to people of colour. If you’re white, black, brown, or anything in between, I’m sure you feel hopeless by the racism going on in America right now.”

“No more senseless killings of human beings. No more seeing people of colour as less than human. We can no longer look away.”

Beyoncé continued: “George is all of our family in humanity. He’s our family because he’s a fellow American. There have been too many times that we’ve seen these violent killings and no consequences. Yes, someone has been charged but justice is far from being achieved.”

The singer went on to encourage her followers to “continue to pray for peace, compassion and our healing for our country.”
