In a new interview, George Clooney says what we’ve all been thinking for the past week, and for most of the last decade: Trump is trash. And, according to Clooney, the Trumpist mob’s violent attack on The Capitol will ensure Trump’s—and his family’s—eternal place rotting in the “dustbin of history.”

On an upcoming episode of KCRW's The Business, Clooney discussed the chaos and brutality of the riot, saying, “It’s devastating to watch the people's house being desecrated in that way.” He continued, noting the public’s desensitization to Trump’s endless crimes. “Everybody kept waiting for, what’s the one thing, the straw that breaks the camel’s back, and it just seemed like that line just kept getting moved and moved and moved, and outrage didn't even matter anymore, even to the point of calling the Secretary of State in Georgia and pressuring him. None of that seemed to matter. This mattered,” Clooney said.

Even after four years of a president who incited hatred and violence, supported neo-Nazis and white supremacists, denied climate change, committed human rights violations and a myriad of other crimes, Clooney believes that Trump’s role in the armed breach of The Capitol is the final straw that will go down in history. “This puts Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka, all of them, into the dustbin of history. That name will now forever be associated with insurrection,” said Clooney.

Finding a potential hopeful spot in the grim reality of this week’s events, Clooney referenced former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly’s support for the invocation of the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. “This is a big, big difference,” Clooney said, concluding: “If this is what it takes to set us on the right path, I think that, not that it’s worth it, it’s not worth it in any shape or form, but at least we should find something hopeful to come out of some of this disaster.”

The Midnight Sky actor has criticized the current occupant of the White House numerous times before, roasting the Trump Administration’s climate change denial ‘dumbfuckery,’ on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and exposing Trump as a ‘dumb goofball’ who’d show up uninvited at celebrity hangouts and leer at waitresses. Glad to see that the “Sexiest Man Alive” is once again putting Trump in his rightful place—this week, the “dustbin.” Next week, federal prison?
