Known for its lush hiking trails and pristine lakes, the Catskill mountain region in upstate New York is a go-to destination to experience the great outdoors. In the latest episode of House Beautiful's Dream Rentals series, our host Kirby Porterfield returns here to spotlight the Geo Dome. Located on a sprawling 12-acre property with towering trees and farm animals, it's the ultimate glamping getaway.
As its name implies, the Geo Dome is a semi-spherical geodesic dome. It features plenty of clear windows and screens, so you'll have great views of the surrounding nature. In the center of the spacious dome is one full bed on the wood floor. Additional guests (the dome can fit up to 16) can bring their own sleeping bags, cots, air mattresses, pillows, or any other sleeping accommodations to make the stay more comfortable.
Outside, the farm has all the communal amenities you'll need for your stay—and more. Throughout the property, there are showers (with hot water!), an outhouse, a sauna, a fire pit, a full kitchen with seating, and even a wood-fired pizza oven. Behind the kitchen there's a covered communal dining area with a long stretch of wooden tables and wooden benches on either side of them.
The best part of the the property? It's home to adorable animals. There are Merino sheep, angora goats, alpacas, Oberhasli dairy goats, and chickens, which roam freely. Attached to the barn, there's a shop where you can buy yarn from the alpacas and sheep, local crafts, and veggies from the property's vegetable garden.
If you think a nature getaway isn't complete without outdoor activities, you can explore the lush property or go for a hike on trails that can be accessed right across the street. But if you prefer to enjoy nature without exerting too much energy, you can relax by the pond opposite the Geo Dome and the nearby lake.
In addition to the Geo Dome, there are cabins and standard family homes on the farm. There's even a recording studio on the property. Overall, Porterfield gives the Geo Dome a rating of "five out five alpaca farms." Her glowing review isn't surprising, since the rental has an average 4.89 stars on Airbnb.
