JOHOR BARU, Oct 31 — Johor Amanah chief Aminolhuda Hassan today urged the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership to review its decision related to the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat that was ceded to the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) for the 15th general election (GE15).

He said the party’s state leadership expressed its disappointment over the decision to hand over the Tanjung Piai seat to Muda.

“What we experienced in the case of the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat seems to be a repeat of what happened for us in the Puteri Wangsa state seat during the Johor state elections.

“However, we respect the decision made by the PH presidential council,” Aminolhuda said in a statement today.

He was commenting on the decision last Saturday that saw Muda naming its party co-founder Lim Wei Jiet as its candidate for Tanjung Piai,

The surprise decision was said to not sit well with Amanah’s local state chapter and grassroots.

Aminolhuda explained that the initial discussions had agreed that the seats contested by Amanah will be six, with DAP contesting eight, PKR 11 and Muda one.

He said it was only appropriate for other component partners who have more seats to give to Muda instead of Amanah, who has fewer seats.

“Basically, the discussion of the distribution of seats among the three main components of PH needs to be resolved first before negotiations with other parties,” said Aminolhuda.

Last Saturday, Muda named Lim as its candidate for Tanjung Piai, along with Danial Abd Majeed (Kepala Batas, Penang) and Siti Rahayu Baharin (Tanjong Karang, Selangor) for GE15.

Previously during the Johor state polls in March, the Puteri Wangsa state seat that belonged to PKR had also caused dissatisfaction after it was ceded to Muda.

Muda then secretary-general Amira Aisya Abd Aziz later secured the Puteri Wangsa seat in a six-cornered contest.
