SINGAPORE — The People’s Action Party won the Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency with Liang Eng Hwa clinching 53.74 per cent of the vote at the General Election on Friday (10 July).

His opponent Singapore Democratic Party’s chairman Paul Tambyah garnered 46.26 per cent of the vote.

In the lead up to the GE, Dr Tambyah was constantly in the media spotlight while his PAP opponent assumed a lower profile.

Dr Tambyah had called on Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing to engage with him and Progress Singapore Party chief Dr Tan Cheng Bock in a debate over the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a recent constituency political broadcast, Liang spoke about the upcoming facilities in Bukit Panjang such as its own polyclinic and a second hawker centre. He also addressed the job concerns of residents amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
