Gayle King Shares Candid Photos from Son William Bumpus Jr.'s ‘Spectacular Family Wedding’ at Oprah's House
King also praised best friend Oprah Winfrey's planning skills, writing, “Turns out she’s a pretty good wedding planner!”
Gayle King is sharing a candid look inside her son William Bumpus Jr.’s nuptials!
Shortly after revealing on-air that her son and his bride Elise Smith tied the knot, the CBS Mornings co-anchor, 69, posted several behind-the-scenes photos and videos of the big event, which was held at her longtime friend Oprah Winfrey's house.
In one Instagram post, King shared a glimpse at the wedding ceremony in a carousel that included a photo of the bride in an Amsale sleeveless gown and the groom in a matching white suit jacket with slacks. The pair held hands in Winfrey’s garden, where the nuptials took place. In another sweet snap, King could be seen hugging her son before the ceremony.
She also shared photos of Bumpus Jr., 37, looking lovingly over at his bride from the altar beneath a rose flower arch setup. Smith’s father, who officiated the ceremony, could be seen just behind him smiling while holding his script. A follow-up photo showed the bride holding a white bouquet as she walked down the aisle holding hands with her mother, Eva.

Another snap showed King in a blue one-shoulder Amsale dress posing alongside her son and Winfrey, 70, in a peach-colored gown. The rest of the photos showed the newlyweds' reception as they took selfies with their wedding party and fed each other cake.
The post concluded with romantic shots of the couple gazing lovingly at each other as sparklers shined in a line behind them. A final video showed the couple driving away in a mini golf cart with a makeshift sign that read “We Married” on the back alongside strings and cans.
“Favorite son Will found the girl of his dreams and now lovely @elisemariesmith is an official member of the family. It was truly a spectacular family wedding!,” King captioned the post. “Thanks to @oprah— the wedding was magical in her ‘backyard!’ "
However, the TV host didn’t just post photos of the nuptials, but wedding preparations as well. In a separate Instagram post, she shared a rehearsal video with the bride and groom holding hands as they walked down a staircase toward the altar.
King shared several other fun photos during rehearsal, including one of her, Bumpus Jr. and Elise posing together in the center of the garden area during the rehearsal and a group shot of her and her son with the wedding party behind them.

Winfrey appeared to take an active role in the ceremony as well, as she could be seen directing staff in one photo. King wrote in her caption that her best friend was “weighing in” on the ceremony, adding “turns out she’s a pretty good wedding planner!”
However, the couple had more than just a rehearsal, as King also showed the setup for their welcome dinner at Rosewood Miramar Beach. The entrance of the place was decorated with a multi-colored rose flower arch, while the dining tables were also adorned with multicolored flowers, blue silverware and candles.
The event appeared to be quite festive, as King showed a video of the bride and groom singing along to Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” with the rest of their wedding guests while a musician played a guitar. Another video showed the bride and groom dancing to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September.”

"The night ended with an impromptu dance party in a room that didn’t have a dance floor! Black people always find a way—especially my family AND @moseslinmusic at the controls ! 💃🏽🕺🏽,” she wrote.
However, the fun doesn’t stop there, as King shared that the newlyweds will be continuing their celebration with friends since the first ceremony had been "strictly for family.” She added that Bumpus Jr. and Smith were planning on holding "a big dance party” for those who weren’t able to attend.
