After delighting fans with a long-awaited Gavin & Stacey Christmas special last year, stars Joanna Page and Mathew Horne are set to come together again this festive season... only not in the way you might expect.

The pair, who play the titular characters in the BBC sitcom, won't be appearing together on screen, but rather behind the microphone, as Horne joins Page on BBC Radio Wales for a special show on December 25.

Between mid-October and the end of November, Page hosted Sunday mornings on the channel and well, given this recent announcement, they were obviously chuffed with what she brought to the table.

Unveiling the news via the station's official Twitter account, Page stated in a video that "Christmas is a day for sharing".

"That's why I wanted to share my special Christmas Day show with, well, who else?" she joked, pointing to Horne who could be been standing next to her as the camera panned out.

"And I can't think of anyone better to spend some proper time with, especially when you add very special friends into the mix," he continued.

"So spend Christmas with us," Page added, as Horne noted that the segment will kick off at midday on the big day.

Just a few days ago, Gavin & Stacey co-creator Ruth Jones appeared to shut down rumours that she and fellow writer James Corden have been working on new episodes of the beloved series during the pandemic.

"There aren't any plans to write anything, James is in America, I am in Wales. It's not at the moment," she told This Morning's Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford while appearing as a guest. "I am sorry not to be able to give you any good news."

Gavin & Stacey's 2019 Christmas special is available now on DVD.
