Gas Station Canopy Collapses as Storm Pummels Central Illinois

The canopy of a gas station in Gridley, Illinois, was recorded bending, then collapsing during a storm on November 5, as the National Weather Service (NWS) recorded wind speeds reaching as high as 68 mph in the area.

Footage recorded by Tiffney Lee Palmer shows the roof of a Phillips 66 gas station contorting in the wind. Moments later, rain begins to fall and, then, so does the roofing.

The NWS had issued a statement warning residents to seek shelter as the storm hit. Credit: Tiffney Lee Palmer via Storyful
