Gao Yunxiang sparks rumours of a comeback

14 Apr – Chinese actor Gao Yunxiang recently set tongues wagging when he returned to social media after months of hiatus.

As reported on Sohu, the actor, who has been on and off Weibo since his sexual assault case made headlines around the world in 2018, posted his first photo in five months on 12 April, and captioned it, "Hei, long time no see... I am back."

He also changed his profile photo from a studio shot of himself to one of him with his daughter.

Fans who saw the post immediately speculated that Gao is now ready to return to showbiz; possibly with a new drama. However, with the rigid rules that have been set up by China's Censorship Board when it comes to actors' morality, it is uncertain whether Gao will be able to return to work soon.

It was back in March 2018 that Gao, alongside Chinese producer Wang Jing, were arrested in Sydney, Australia; after an Australian-Chinese TV producer accused them of sexually assaulting her in a hotel room while the two were in the city to shoot the TV series, "Love in Aranya".

The case not only forced Gao to remain in the country, but had also affected his career; as several of his new projects were either cancelled or his appearance being removed from it altogether.

Gao and his actress wife Dong Xuan were also divorced a year later, though many speculated that the divorce was a way to protect the actress from the many lawsuits from studios and brands alike that would have come their way due to his case.

However, in March 2020, both Gao and Wang were found not guilty and the actor was acquitted of five counts of sexual assault and two counts of indecent assault.
