Gamuda Cove Unveils Townsquare Park in Conjunction with International Day for Biological Diversity

Kuala Langat – Gamuda Land announced the completion and inauguration of Townsquare Park in its nature sanctuary, smart city township of Gamuda Cove. This milestone event marks the introduction of L’OCCITANE Malaysia’s exquisite L’OCCITANE Garden – a first for Malaysia and a captivating addition to the park’s French-inspired allure.

“With the completion of Townsquare Park, we have successfully developed over 1,600 acres of green and waterscapes across 12 urban forest clusters, and we are on track to meet our 2,000-acre target by 2025. These thoughtful spaces are designed not just as lush environments to foster community cohesion but also double as vital ecological assets, serving as natural cooling zones, carbon storage, and rainwater runoff sponges in our collective battle against climate change. The completion of Townsquare Park also reflects our broader mission to dedicate 16% of Gamuda Cove’s total land area to green spaces, in alignment with Gamuda Cove’s nature sanctuary vision,” said LAr. Khariza Abd Khalid, Executive Director of Gamuda Land.

Khariza continued by saying, “Notably, initiatives such as our 90-acre Wetlands Arboretum and 60-acre Central Park serve as flagship examples of our dedication to environmental stewardship and community well-being.”

“As the top property developer in Malaysia, Gamuda Land brings a wealth of experience and influence within the local community. On the other hand, L’OCCITANE Malaysia, a subsidiary of an internationally renowned natural beauty brand from Provence, has a global presence and a strong local commitment to sustainability and natural ingredients. Together, as a dynamic partnership, we leverage our respective strengths and expertise to make a meaningful impact on environmental conservation and sustainable living in Malaysia community and beyond” said Elida Wong, General Manager, SEA & India of L’OCCITANE Group.

Parisian Inspired: Connecting Commerce and Community

Nestled adjacent to the bustling SplashMania Waterpark and the forthcoming Townsquare commercial shops, Townsquare Park unfolds across a sprawling 6-acre expanse, drawing inspiration from the iconic gardens of Paris.

In explaining the park’s conceptualisation, Khariza mentioned, “In light of Townsquare Park’s prime location, adjacent to the popular SplashMania and the vibrant upcoming Townsquare commercial hub, our vision was to craft a themed garden that seamlessly merges green spaces, parks, and recreational areas. Our objective was to design a public space within this bustling pedestrian zone, serving as an inviting communal hub – making the park more than just a pass-through destination but for visitors to rest and appreciate the surroundings.”

At the heart of Townsquare Park is the fountain plaza, a contemporary take on the classical grand fountains found in France’s Palais Royale Garden. This centrepiece is surrounded by large flower beds and lush lawns, with tables and chairs for visitors to picnic or simply unwind amidst a picturesque setting. Leading towards the fountain plaza is a long avenue which is bordered by native trees that were cultivated at Gamuda Land’s Advanced Tree Planting nurseries. The impressive avenue also connects directly to SplashMania Waterpark.

The flower beds and shrubs act as pollinator gardens, playing a crucial role in supporting local biodiversity. These gardens attract various species of pollinators, contributing to essential ecosystem functions such as pollination, food production, and habitat creation. Additionally, they serve as valuable learning spaces for understanding the importance of pollinators in the ecosystem and provide essential habitat and shelter for these vital creatures.

Gamuda Cove’s first commercial property development, Townsquare, which is on track for a 2024 vacant possession, is seamlessly integrated with the adjacent Townsquare Park. This European-style component offers a selection of shops, eateries, bistros, and cafes, all set in an al-fresco, fully pedestrianised environment. The connecting streets and alleys within Townsquare are thoughtfully designed to extend the park’s natural ambience, with greenery lining the pathways, creating a seamless landscape environment.

The Introduction of Malaysia’s First L’OCCITANE Garden

Adding to Townsquare Park’s allure is the L’OCCITANE Garden – an innovative concept inspired by the verdant landscapes of Provence and tailored to Malaysia’s unique flora. This botanical garden will cultivate herbs like mint and rosemary, key ingredients in L’OCCITANE’s products, blending French botanical tradition with tropical beauty. Drawing on the contemporary European Townsquare Park concept, the garden integrates unique L’OCCITANE elements, celebrating natural beauty and strengthening the partnership between Gamuda Land and L’OCCITANE Malaysia.

In unveiling the L’OCCITANE Garden, Clarance Boo, Senior Manager of Communications and CSR at L’OCCITANE Malaysia shared, “We invite visitors to immerse themselves in the Gamuda Cove x L’OCCITANE Garden, inspired by the natural ingredients of L’OCCITANE from Provence. Our garden aims to cultivate a passion for sustainable living and deepen environmental appreciation among Malaysians. Embark with us on this enriching journey into the heart of nature, nestled within this beautiful township. Together with Gamuda Land, who shares our unwavering commitment to preserving biodiversity and reducing waste, let’s make a positive impact on our environment and inspire change for a more sustainable future.”

In terms of connectivity, Gamuda Cove features 75km of cycling and pedestrian paths that weave through the residential, commercial, and recreational areas, seamlessly linking Townsquare Park and Townsquare with the broader township. For eco-friendly mobility, an e-tram service is available, currently connecting key destinations within the community, including Discovery Park, Townsquare, and SplashMania Waterpark, enhancing the ease and convenience of transit throughout the area.
