Game of Thrones Movie in Early Development (Report)
You may be able to see the wonders of Westeros on the big screen someday soon.
A movie set in the world of HBO’s Game of Thrones is in early development at Warner Bros., according to The Hollywood Reporter. Now when we say “early development,” we mean “early”: No cast, writer or director has been attached to the project as of yet, and no storyline has been revealed. But “the company is keen on exploring the idea of Westeros invading cinemas” with at least one movie, THR says.

HBO’s fantasy mega-hit, which wrapped up an highly rated and acclaimed eight-season run in 2019, has flirted with the big screen before. Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss originally pitched an idea for a trio of theatrical movies to conclude the series rather than an eighth season, but that idea was nixed by HBO.
Since then, HBO has expanded the Game of Thrones universe, based on the novels of George R.R. Martin, with a number of spinoffs, beginning with prequel House of the Dragon, which aired its second season earlier this year. (It was renewed for Season 3 in June.) A second offshoot, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, following knight and squire Dunk and Egg, is slated to debut next June. The rumored Jon Snow spinoff, however, with Kit Harington reprising his Thrones role, was shelved earlier this year, with Harington saying: “We all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough.”
